Push

I was so excited about seeing this as I have been waiting months since the Sundance festival when it did so well. I think the anticipation didnt help. That is not to say it wasnt good. It was, it just wasnt amazing. The basic idea is fantastic and there is huge hope for a sequel now that the groundwork has been laid. I think if you like things of the genre it is worth seeing. There is a fantastic cast, I am not sure they gave Djimon Hounsou enough to do, his character could have been so much more. Although the other bad guy - who has the massive fight scene with Chris Evans (not the ginger one) was cool. Or it might have just been that scene! Anyway, I would suggest seeing it but perhaps if the genre is not that much for you wait for the DVD. It is however, I think, exciting to see hope for Dakota Fanning as a more grown up actress. She is very good. Particularly funny drunk!

Valkyrie

I was really expecting to hate this which I think helped in my enjoyment! I found it certainly informative, and by all accounts it is relatively historically accurate except that they exagerated how close they came to success. My big problem with it was how unbelievably american Tom Cruise is. For all that I say I hate him, I do actually like most of his films. He played the part very well but his voice is too American. The British stars at least had a neutral accent but it just did not seem right that one of Germany’s hero’s was made so unbelievably american. Other than that I actually think they did quite well.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I was exhausted when I saw this and it is incredibly long so it was perhaps not the best film to see then. I did enjoy it however. It is very beautifully done, stylish and very well acted. It has a lovely pace but you really need to be very relaxed and happy to sit there watching while not much happens. There were some very funny bits - look out for the lightning stories, entirely random but very entertaining. I think definatly worth seeing but as there are so many things out at the moment I would probably wait for the DVD.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Having watched the last two of these recently I was fully expecting a very shitty mildly entertaining fun film. It was actually much better than I expected. I was thoroughly entertaining, still crappy but not mild. I think if you enjoyed the other two you definatly will enjoy this. Better than the second by far, on a par with the first. Worth a watch me thinks.

Frost/Nixon

I think that this is one of the best films I have seen in a very long time. The two lead performances were pretty much all you could notice. Frank Langella was incredible. It is a very emotional film and the performances aid this in an incredible way. Absolutly one to see. A beautiful film.

Yes Man!

Again. This was funny! I dont like Jim Carrey, except for when he does serious like Eternal Sunshine, 23 things like that so I was very suprised by how much I loved this. I love Zoey Deschanel which probably helped. Anyway again with the go see.I dont normally enjoy so many comedies in such a short space of time!

Role Models

I was very suprised by how much I enjoyed this! I found it soo funny. I have realised I started to put all American comic films under the heading of Ben Stiller isnt funny. This is not Ben Stiller. It is well worth seeing if you want funny without it going too far. Paul Rudd is fabulous. Easy fun watching.

Bride Wars

As chick flicks go, this was very entertaining. Entirely mindless. If it wasnt for the 14 year old brats sitting behind me I would probably have enjoyed it even more. Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson are lovely and thoroughly idiotic in a very entertaining and gently amusing way. If you enjoy chick flicks this is a relatively good one. If you dont it is not for you!

Slumdog Millionaire

Worth the hype. This is a beautiful, moving and just simply loverly story, beautifully shot and very well acted. I loved every minute of it. Jamal is such a brilliant character because he has suffered so much and yet seems so .. something, im not sure what. Anyway, definatly go see it. Absolutly fantastic.

The Spirit

I saw this two days before it was released, one of the joys of working at a cinema, not that I do anymore but I made the most of it. I actually thought it was pretty good. Dont try to compare it to Sin City or 300, it is very very very funny. Im not sure how much of that is intentional, but I think it is worth seeing. There are points when it is boring, but mostly it entertains. Just go expecting it to be bizarre, not good and enjoy the wonder!
